Debasmita Dasgupta

Artist, Founder & Executive Director

As an artist and arts-for-change advocate, Debasmita created ArtsPositive combining her passion for illustrations and her decade-long experience as a communications specialist working across Asia and Europe. Besides incubating ideas and managing ArtsPositive's projects, she is an internationally published picture book illustrator and graphic novelist. In 2018, she was nominated for the "Kirkus Reviews Prize for Best Picture Book" . Her debut graphic novel NADYA by Scholastic India is critically acclaimed across many countries. She enjoys drawing both fiction and non-fiction for children and young adults. Working closely with various publishers in India, Singapore, Europe, UK and the USA, she has illustrated over 20 stories, poetries, as well as concept art for magazines. She also specialises in creating cause-based illustrations, be it about promoting girl child rights, ending female genital cutting or sharing inspiring stories of changemakers. Her work has been showcased in Italy, Singapore, Thailand and Denmark. She has been awarded as one of the 50 creative fellows by the National Arts Strategies (USA) in 2015 and an arts fellow under Royal Society of Arts (UK) in 2016. She is also passionate about cinema and has been a screen writer, producer and co-director of some award-winning short films and documentaries.
